Cardiff Blues were dealt a further blow last weekend with the injury to Gary Powell. Prop forward Gary Powell suffered a torn Achilles in the match against Leinster and is due to have an operation this week. He is expected to be out of action for between six to eight months. The Blues are down to 11 forwards and 11 backs ahead of their match against LV Cup semi final against Gloucester and are down to their last two prop forwards, Taufau Filise and Scott Andrews with T Rhys Thomas expected to start at Hooker.

John Yapp still a few weeks off returning having recovered well from his torn bicep. Sam Hobbs is ruled out after suffering a head injury in the win over Newcastle Falcons, while Gethin Jenkins is on Wales duty against Ireland. The Blues have also lost Hooker, Gareth Williams and Second Row, Deiniol Jones. Lock Jones was forced off the field during the Wales defeat to France with a rib injury while Williams picked up a knee problem playing for Wales against Scotland. With Bradley Davies in the Welsh squad the Blues have only two locks left with Scott Morgan and Paul Tito both likely to start against Gloucester. Maamma Molitika, Andy Powell, Andries Pretorius, Xavier Rush, Ben White and Robin Sowden Taylor will all be competing for starting places in the back row.

In the backs, Richie Rees, Tom James, Leigh Halfpenny, Jamie Roberts and Tom Shanklin are all in the Welsh squad leaving 11 backs to choose from. Gareth Cooper, Darren Allinson, Ceri Sweeney, Dai Flanagan, Dafydd Hewitt, Casey Laulala, Gavin Evans, Chris Czekaj, Richard Mustoe, Ben Blair and Sam Norton Knight will all be aiming for a place in the starting XV.

Still no news on the stating line-up, coming up to  2pm Friday. I fear it will not be a good day for us on Sunday with all the injuries and international duties. Gloucester will be up for this, having lost out to us on at least five occasions recently.

I notice that the Ospreys have had to cancel their match against Ulster due to health and safety issues over not enouogh front row cover - I wonder who we'll have on the bench?

Law 3.5 is critical!

If we only have 3 front row players then we get NO replacements at all! If we get 4 (3 props) then we get up to 3 replacements.

Thank you Peter!

You would think that by now they ought to be able to spell the players' names correctly

Taufa'ao Filise - Andries Pretorius - instead of - Faao Filise - Andries Petorius

Why would you think that Big Al? Are you on a new type of medication or something?
